With Glowing Hearts: Child Poverty in Canada
With Glowing Hearts is a children's musical by children and for children. With a serious theme of child poverty in Canada, the story is nonetheless heartwarming and fun. With Glowing Hearts was produced by "Art & Soul" Children's Theatre troupe in conjunction with The Vancouver Children's Choir and Pacific DanceArts at Michael J. Fox theatre in Burnaby to a sold-out crowd. Proceeds from the performance went to the Maple Ridge Food Bank for baby food and diapers.

This delightful musical with an original score by local musician and composer Amy Stephen was written in conjunction with a group of youth from Gilmore Park United Church. The theme was poverty in the city of Richmond, which is basically invisible. (21% of Richmond residents live in poverty and Richmond has one of the widest gaps between rich and poor in Canada). The musical was performed on two nights with one matinee to a full house. Richmond city councilman Bill McNulty played a role as a councilman in the musical. Proceeds from ticket sales were given to the Richmond Dream Auction.

It was performed by the Act 4 Musical Theatre Ensemble in three shows May 14-17, 2010. The theme of the musical is oppression in all forms: national, political, domestic violence and schoolyard bullying.
